POKOTABI / Teradaya
麺飯食堂 てら田や
Teradaya in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, serves soy sauce ramen enriched with pork back fat and ginger, crisp and juicy fried chicken, as well as evening abura soba and side dishes.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A refreshing aroma of ginger rises from the bowl, balancing the rich depth of pork back fat drifting across the soup's surface. Located in a corner of the Mibu Bojo No. 2 housing complex, Teradaya serves ramen where thin noodles pair neatly with a sharp, well-defined soy sauce broth, revealing a steady warmth of savory depth with every bite. Topped with thinly sliced chashu pork that avoids being overly greasy and standard seasoned soft-boiled eggs, the bowls carry an easygoing comfort suited just as well to a midday meal as to unwinding at the end of the day.
Sharing the spotlight with the noodles is the generous Japanese fried chicken (karaage). Fried crisp and aromatic on the outside while staying juicy within, each piece is served alongside shredded cabbage and salt and pepper—hearty enough to enjoy on its own or as a savory partner to a bowl of rice. Diners can also tailor portions to their appetite, with options like a half-size seared chashu rice bowl topped with diced pork, or value sets that include rice alongside the soup.
Come evening, the menu expands to feature nighttime small plates such as soupless abura soba, gyoza, and deep-fried horse mackerel served with tartar sauce. It makes an easy setting for sipping a draft beer, a bottle of Sapporo Akaboshi, or a sour cocktail over light bites before finishing off with thick-noodled abura soba or ramen. With its casual, food-stall-inspired atmosphere featuring counter and booth seating, the shop welcomes solo diners dropping in on a whim just as comfortably as small groups.
